Watanabe kai judo club was founded in 1986 by John Barton, sandan.
Derek Gove, nidan, has been one of John's students since the first night, and he took over the running of the club when John moved to Kendal in 1994. Derek is the Area Representative for judo in the area. He holds an FPJ Level 2 qualification, is a qualified area referee, and has completed the BJC's Shidosha Dai Ichi coaching award.
Martin Little, shodan, joined the club in 1999, and also holds FPJ Level 2 coaching qualification.

Where are we?

The club is based at Crosby on Eden Parish Hall.
Crosby-on-Eden is a few miles from Carlisle, on the A689. From the M74 or M6, exit the M6 at Junction 44.

Training times

Friday: The club runs every week, including bank holidays and most school holidays. We usually break during the school summer holidays and over Christmas and New Year.

6.30 - 7.45: Primaries and juniors
7.45 - 9.30: Seniors and experienced juniors

Club merchandise

The club badge is available as a patch which can be sewn onto your judogi, a T-shirt, and a baseball cap. All of these can be purchased at the club. Click on the images for more details and larger picture.

Club Events

Summer Championship 2008:
The fourth annual team championship is coming up. The club has numerous new members who do not yet know which team they will be part of. More details to follow...

Grading Success
Congratulations to all who took part in the club grading on February 29th, especially Orlando Appleby who earned his 3rd Kyu.

Training at Laversdale
We will be unable to use the main dojo on March 14th, and will instead be training in the village hall at Laversdale
