Summer School 2007
The fifth Annual Borders Summer Judo Festival takes place from the 9th to 12th August 2007 and presents an ideal opportunity to bring the family to a beautiful part of Britain and get some good quality judo in as well.
This year’s event promises to be as exciting as ever, with Mr. G.R. Mealing, the British Judo Council’s only 7th Dan taking sessions on the Friday to Sunday. 5th Dan George Temperton, who received personal tuition from Kenshiro Abe sensei will once again be divulging the secrets of kyu shin do judo. Other instructors will include: Moira Newton, 5th Dan, and Tam Hardie, 4th Dan JudoScotland.
Following the success of last year we will also be invinting members of the Edinburgh Kendo club to give a demonstration and lesson on their art.
This course will combine expert tution on a number of aspects of Judo, including kata, newaza, tachiwaza and continuation techniques. As always and as befits a BJC event, where we consider ourselves as a family, the event will also include a barbeque and social with live music on the Saturday evening.
If you are interested in traditional judo then this course will provide something for you whatever your grade. Grading will take place for BJC members on the Sunday and with Mr. Mealing in attendance this can, if necessary, inlcude recommendations for contest grades above first dan.
This course is open to all members of all associations. As has been the case in previous years we again anticipate some instruction from JudoScotland instructors. We do, however, hope that guests will respect our traditions. There will be a kamiza and judoka are requested to treat the area as a dojo, wearing zori or flip-flops to the edge of the mat. We would also ask guests to wear traditional white judogi. A selection of books and badges will be on sale.
