Summer School 2008
The sixth Annual Borders Summer Judo Festival takes place from the 7th to 10th and this year we are planning our biggest, best event yet. In addition to BJC Vice President MR G R Mealing, 7th Dan this year we extend a welcome to BJC Chief Examiner Akinori Hosaka, Kodokan 8th Dan and fellow Kodokan 8th dan Yoriyuki Yamamoto. Mr Hosaka will be taking a Level I FPJ course on the Saturday and Sunday, and will be available to all for a general judo session on the Friday afternoon.
The inclusion of two Kodokan 8th dans makes this course unique in Scotland. In addition the course will also benefit from the expert tuition of Moira Newton, 5th dan, George Temperton 5th dan and Tam Hardie, JudoScotland 4th Dan. With the addition of Mr Hosaka to an already impressive line up, this is a good opportunity to visit one of Britain's premier holiday destinations and get some good judo in as well.
We are anticipating a high level of response this year, particulary from Scotland, so it is advisable to book your place in advance. This year we will once again be holding a session either on another martial art, or learning transferable skills from another art.
Details regarding the social aspect of the course are yet to be finalised, but it is safe to say a good time for all is the priority of the organisers. Pay us a visit.

Things to do
Scottish Borders is an established tourist destination within Scotland, so there are plenty of things to see and do in the area when not on the mat. As well as fishing and golf, there is a swimming pool in nearby Peebles, Edinburgh is just an hour’s drive away and will be in the middle of the world famous and very lively festival period. Within the Borders there are rare-breed farms, mountiain cycling facilites, hillwalking and historic buildings. Again contact Scottish Borders Information for what is on over the period.
